Curriculum At Halwin we are creating our own curriculum, which meets the requirements of the National Curriculum. We adopt a cross - curricular approach in our teaching. Many of the topics are comprised of whole school themes and special weeks devoted to specific areas of the curriculum. Some of the themes include: chocolate, transport, Cornish stories, treasure and many others. Throughout the children's learning we encourage good team work and respect for each other when they have the opportunity to work through challenges e.g. planning and growing herbs to encourage economic awareness. Throughout their time at Halwin the children have opportunities to learn from visiting speakers, going on visits, theatre experiences and opportunities for working with local schools for sporting activities and festivals. We follow the PACTT (parents and children together with teachers) programme alongside the SEAL themes and R Time to help promote positive personal, social and emotional skills. We link the curriculum in with the local community and aim to use the outdoor classroom as often as possible. The Global Dimension is being developed to link with schools beyond the local area in the UK and abroad. We aim to provide a broad education promoting art, music, drama, sports and extra curricular to encourage the children to have both personal and academic aspirations to do the best they can. OFSTED 2008 commented :- 'The good curriculum offers a broad range of stimulating activities which pupils clearly enjoy. They (the children) particularly appreciate the large number of clubs and extra curricular activities.' |
